What is Counselling

Nottingham and Sherwood Counselling

What is counselling?

Counselling and Psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or longer term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing (source: http://www.bacp.co.uk).

I am trained and experienced in Person-Centred/Humanistic Counselling, this type of counselling enables you to be open and freely express your personal emotions and feelings to help you to come to terms with any negative feelings about yourself. It can help you to develop personal skills to have the power and freedom to change and improve your self-esteem. Sometimes it’s difficult to say what’s on your mind. Talking to a Counsellor can help you cope with difficulty and make a positive change.

Benefits  of counselling can:

Help you to identify what causes your distress.

Develop an understanding  of the problem or issue.

Create a positive outlook on life and relationships.

Develop personal skills.

Enable power and freedom to change.

Discover self worth and improve self esteem.

Short-Term Counselling

Many people struggle to find the time to commit themselves to counselling. Sometimes what you may need is short-term help to focus on what’s distressing you so that, with my help, you can start to improve things and develop better ways of thinking, feeling and coping with your situation.
